When is hurricane season in Montgomery County?

Hurricane season in Montgomery County runs from June 1 to November 30. Those are the Atlantic season dates the National Hurricane Center uses. The busiest stretch is usually August into early October. Any porta potty rented during those 6 months should have a storm plan from the day it arrives.

Track storms on the National Hurricane Center site. Its cone maps show where a named storm may go over the next few days.

Inland does not mean safe. Conroe sits well north of the coast, yet tropical storms still bring strong gusts and days of rain.

How do you keep a porta potty from blowing over?

A standard porta potty stands 91 inches tall and weighs about 175 pounds empty. A strong gust can tip it. The 3 best defenses are a tie-down stake, a sheltered spot, and an early lay-down by our crew. Never tip the unit yourself.

  • Ask for a tie-down stake. Request it at delivery on any rental that runs through storm season.
  • Use a windbreak. Set the unit beside a house, garage or solid fence, not alone in an open field.
  • Stay clear of big trees. Pines and oaks drop limbs in high wind. Keep the unit out from under them.
  • Keep the door latched. An open door catches wind like a sail.
  • Clear loose debris. Lumber, buckets and trash cans become flying objects near the unit.

Which spots flood near the San Jacinto River and Lake Conroe?

Low ground near the San Jacinto River, Spring Creek, Lake Creek and Lake Conroe can flood in one storm. In 2017, Hurricane Harvey sent water into Kingwood and other neighborhoods downstream. A unit in a flood zone should sit on the highest firm ground, or be picked up early.

What should you do in the 72 hours before a named storm?

The 72 hours before a named storm are when you decide each unit's fate. It can stay, get laid down, or leave. Call us as soon as the forecast cone covers Montgomery County, because roads close fast once rain starts.

What restrooms do storm cleanup crews need?

Storm cleanup crews need the same restroom count as any job site. OSHA requires at least 1 toilet for 20 or fewer workers. For weekly service, we suggest 1 unit for every 10 workers. Long cleanup days in the heat fill tanks faster, so add a service visit when needed.

The legal crew counts are in our OSHA porta potty requirements guide.

Hurricane season porta potty questions

These 5 answers cover what renters ask when a storm heads for Montgomery County or nearby counties. They explain lay-downs, Sunday limits, crew counts, cleanup timing and cancelled parties. Each answer starts with the fact, and prices are before sales tax.

Can I just lay the porta potty down myself before the storm?

Leave that job to our crew. A full tank spills when tipped, and a unit tipped by the renter is billed to the renter. Call us, and we lay it down or pick it up.

How fast can you get units out after the storm passes?

Same-day delivery works for orders placed by 12 PM, Monday through Saturday, once roads are open. The same-day fee starts at $75. Flooded roads can slow any route.

Do you deliver on Sunday if the storm hits on Saturday?

We do not deliver on Sundays, even after a storm. Order by noon Saturday for same-day, or book a spot on Monday's route.

How many units does a 15-person cleanup crew need?

OSHA requires 1 toilet for 15 workers, and our guideline suggests 2 units. A standard unit starts at $175 per 28 days with weekly service, plus $65 delivery and $30 pickup.

My party is in 3 days and a storm is coming. Can I cancel?

A full refund applies if you cancel more than 72 hours ahead of delivery. From 24 to 72 hours out, you get half back. Inside 24 business hours, the order is non-refundable.
