What should San Jacinto County renters plan for?
San Jacinto County renters should plan around 5 local facts. Most of the county is unincorporated, and national forest covers a large share. Lake lots slope, timber roads get soft, and deer camps run all fall. These facts decide the drive in and where the unit stands.
Coldspring is the county seat. Coldspring, Shepherd and Pointblank are small cities, and the rest of the county is unincorporated. For roadside or flood-zone questions, check with county offices through San Jacinto County's official site.
Sam Houston National Forest covers much of the county. Double Lake Recreation Area sits just south of Coldspring. For any gathering on forest land, check with the U.S. Forest Service, since we only set units on private property.
Lake Livingston is one of the biggest lakes in Texas. West-shore lots near Coldspring and Pointblank often drop toward the water. We set units on the flat part of the lot near the road or garage.
Timber and ranch roads go soft. Many drives are sand, clay or logging road. After a hard rain, our loaded trailer may have to wait a day for the ground to firm up.
Deer camps fill up each fall. Hunting leases across the county host groups from opening weekend in November into winter. A 28-day rental with weekly service fits a full season.
What is the best way to get a unit to a Lake Livingston lake house?
The best way is to book at least 3 days ahead and pick a flat spot near the road. Lake Livingston houses often have steep lots, tight drives and septic systems sized for a family. A rented unit takes the party load off the septic tank and keeps guests out of the house.
- Pick flat ground by the drive. Never on the slope toward a seawall or dock.
- Plan for boat guests. Point the door toward the path they will walk up from the water.
- Book holiday weekends early. Order a week or more ahead for July 4th and Labor Day.
- Order Friday drop-off. Units come Friday and leave Monday at no extra charge.
For the guest count, use the porta potty sizing calculator. For a nicer unit with a sink and flush, see the deluxe flushable porta potty.
